Ranitidine is in a group of medications called histamine-2 blockers. Ranitidine works by reducing the amount of acid your stomach produces. CLEANING UP YOUR ACT: THE HIDDEN HAZARD – LEAD - WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT LEAD?
• Test your dishes for lead. A kit for this purpose is available from Frandon Enterprises Inc., 511 North 48th Street, Seattle, Washington 98103.
• Be wary of craft show pottery. Do not use lead-glazed ceramic products to store or serve food. Acidic foods like orange juice can release lead from the shiny glazes of ceramic products made in some foreign countries and those fired by amateurs.
• Have your water tested. If results are worrisome, replace the pipes or add filtration devices. Short of that, flush frequently when water has been sitting stagnant for several hours; let the water run for about three minutes before using it for drinking or cooking.
• Don't use hot tap water to make coffee, tea or cocoa. Lead solder in pipes dissolves more readily in hot water.
